Dating back as far as 400BC, Hippocrates – the father of medicine – called the elder tree his medicine chest. Elderberry is one of the most commonly used medicinal plants in the world.
Why has this tiny berry been so important for so long? Probably because it is packed with antioxidants which can provide anti-viral and anti-inflammatory benefits. The berries are high in vitamin C, rich in antioxidants and high in dietary fibre.

The medicinal properties of elderberries are reportedly attributed to their high antioxidant content; particularly polyphenols including anthocyanins, flavanols and proanthocyanidins.
Research has demonstrated the anti-viral and anti-inflammatory effect of elderberries with reputed benefits in reducing the severity and duration of colds and flu.
