One of the things that nearly always affects my skin is the change in weather over this time of year. I find that as soon as the colder weather starts to kick in, my skin tends to become a lot dryer. We all know that the food that we put into our body can have a huge impact on our health and how we’re feeling, but what about what we put onto our skin? Things that you put onto your skin can also be absorbed into the body, so it’s also important to consider the products that you’re using as well! We recently had the lovely ladies from A’kin in store to tell us a bit more about their wonderful skincare products and also use a skin assessment machine to show things like skin damage from UV rays and dehydration. Different parts of your skin show up in different colours depending on the health of your skin, so it’s a really interesting experience! Don’t worry if you didn’t manage to pop in this time, we will be having events with them in the future, so keep your eyes on the newsletter so you don’t miss out on anything!

In this post I wanted to talk about some of our top picks to care for your skin during the colder months and I’ve managed to narrow it down to just 5!

Coconut oil: This is one that I talked a lot about in the last post, but couldn’t not touch on it in this post as well! Coconut oil is such an amazing product to use as skin care, as well as for cooking. It’s completely natural, so moisturising and probably something that you already have in your cupboard. You can read the full post about it here.

A’kin rose hip oil: Another oil type product that I absolutely love is the rose hip oil from A’kin. This is such a wonderful product that you can use both without or under makeup and at morning or night. I find that if I go to bed with this on my face, I always wake up with really soft and hydrated skin that just feels so nourished. Rose hip oil is another completely natural product and is full of antioxidants and vitamins- the A’kin one that we sell in store is also certified organic as well. During the colder months, if you suffer from your skin feeling slightly dry or tighter than usual, try applying a little rose hip oil morning and night- it works a treat for me every time!

A’kin pure facial creamy cleanser: Cleansers and makeup removers are something that I’m really picky about, as I have really sensitive skin and find that a lot of products cause me irritation. I also find that some products can leave my skin feeling really dry (especially facial washes) so I typically go for a creamy, more moisturising facial cleanser. This one from A’kin is great as it’s so gentle and can also be used to remove eye makeup as well, so you don’t have to buy two separate products! It also has a built in toner as well as a cleanser, so I don’t need to use a separate product for that either, which is great!

Gentle facial scrub: Something that I don’t use every day, but maybe once or twice a week is a gentle face scrub. These are great for helping to remove any excess dry/dead skin cells and I find leave my skin feeling really clean and fresh. Even though I cleanse and wash my skin well, it’s nice to have a bit more of a deep clean once in a while, to keep my skin feeling soft and smooth and help avoid pores becoming blocked. When looking for a facial scrub, again I like to try and find something as natural as possible and also something that’s not too harsh. I do sometimes mix up my own scrubs with a little fine pink salt and some coconut oil. A’kin also do a lovely product called the Jojoba & corn gentle exfoliating facial scrub which is packed full of natural ingredients and they say is suitable for all skin types.

Moisturising makeup: Not only do I slightly switch up my skincare routine over the winter time, but I usually opt for some different makeup base products as well. I tend to choose slightly more hydrating foundations or tinted moisturisers to help keep my skin looking fresh and dewey, as some foundations can sometimes cling to the dry patches of skin. Two products that I love are both from Lavera and are their Tinted moisturiser and Liquid Foundation. The tinted moisturiser just comes in a single colour that is adaptable to different skin tones and is really creamy and easy to apply. The foundation comes in variation of different shades and gives a really beautiful, natural coverage. Wearing a good quality, hydrating foundation really helps my skin to feel more comfortable and look a lot more radiant during the winter, however, no matter what makeup I apply, I find that a good skincare base is absolutely vital, so if you only want to invest in one product, I would recommend starting there.
